“Swordfish”

This summer we took our first family vacation and one of our stops was the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ.  What a fantastic place!  I could have sat in front of any number of the aquarium views and been mesmerized for hours.  Small children have a way of keeping up the pace . . . but even they were stunned by the shark tunnel.  To be completely surrounded by sharks was incredible!

This is a watercolor I did from one of my mother’s photographs.  She has a great eye for catching an interesting composition!   Here I thought it would be fun to try to capture the strange reflections and refractions of light with crayon and watercolor.  This is also my entry for this week’s Illustration Friday topic, “Mesmerizing”,

  1. Definitely mesmerizing! I can’t wait to try this technique, it is so beautiful! And I know all about kids and revving up the pace for vacations. On the one hand they help me notice and experience the magical moments through their eyes, and on the other hand I miss so much by changing diapers and feeding babies. – but in the end the memories are precious 🙂

  2. Beautiful Rebecca – a very interesting perspective. You are so right about your Mom’s photography. She always takes pictures that look more like works of art than photos.
